Exploring Consumer Sentiment on Central Bank Digital Currencies: A Twitter Analysis from 2021 to 2023

Abstract Between the worldwide digital currencies one can also pinpoint those of central banks being a part move towards cashless society. Several are already planning to issue them, while others conducting studies on them. Literature topic is heavily increasing, including understanding bank (CBDCs), their risks, and banks’ future position This paper analyzes Twitter data tagged with “cbdc” hashtag posted between January 2021 2023, aim highlighting change regarding citizens’ perceptions currencies. The authors extracted 124,946 positive, negative neutral tweets from which they further analyzed by using Python script, in end different views potential benefits drawbacks CBDCs. results show growing debate discussion around use CBDCs, citizens expressing concerns about consequences civil liberties financial control, highlight CBDCs such as inclusion tackling money laundering terrorism. enriches literature related study consumer sentiment currencies, significance social media platforms for sharing opinions emerging technologies.
